RYA Yachtmaster Practical Motor Cruising Training & Exam

The RYA Yachtmaster certificate of competence is often the ultimate aim of aspiring skippers. It is a well known, highly respected qualification worldwide, proving your experience and competence as a skipper. Once commercially endorsed, it allows you to skipper any power driven vessel upto 24m in length, carrying upto 12 passenger (+ crew), upto 150 miles from a safe haven day & night.

Unlike other courses in the cruising programme, there is no formal training to complete in order to become a Yachtmaster. Instead, we will provide you with bespoke tuition in order to fully prepare you for the Yachtmaster exam.

The training can either be conducted on our new Jeanneau Prestige 32 flybridge motor cruiser or your own vessel.

Entry requirements: 50 days, 2,500 miles including at least 5 passages over 60 miles acting as skipper for at least two of these passages and including two which have involved overnight passages. 5 days experience as skipper. At least half this mileage and passages must be in tidal waters. A VHF Radio licence and valid first aid certificate are also required.

Minimum age: 18

Course duration: There is no set duration for the Yachtmaster Preparation training and the time required will vary according to your current ability and knowledge. We suggest that you call us to discuss the amount of preparation that you should undertake.

Course fee: £200 per person per day / £400 with 1:1 tuition per day / £250 per day on your own boat (upto 4 people)
For the exam: £163 exam fee plus £200 boat hire.
Prices include VAT, accommodation onboard vessel , breakfast and lunch (except own boat courses), RYA Motor Cruising scheme syllabus and logbook, all fuel (except own boat courses), hire of waterproofs and lifejacket.

Dates: We train 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Courses can usually be arranged on a date of your choice.
