RYA Coastal Skipper Practical Motor Cruising Training Course
at Plymouth Powerboat School, Devon & Cornwall

Our RYA Coastal Skipper Practical course teaches the skills and techniques required to skipper a motor cruiser on coastal and offshore passages by day and night. During the course you will skipper a passage in a variety of situations and learn more about safety, passage planning, pilotage by day and night, boat handling and emergency situations.

At the end of the course, there is an optional examination for those requiring the Commercial Endorsement.

The course can either be conducted on our new Jeanneau Prestige 32 flybridge motor cruiser or your own vessel.

Entry requirements: 15 days, 2 days as skipper, 300 miles, 8 night hours, boat handling to Day Skipper Level and navigational ability to Coastal Skipper / Yachtmaster shorebased level. A VHF Radio licence and valid first aid certificate are also required.
For the optional exam leading to the commercial endorsement: 400 miles, 20 days living on board, 12 night hours, 2 days as skipper.

Minimum age: 16

Course duration: 5 days - 09:30 to 17:00, plus a night exercise. 6 days if taking the optional exam.

Course fee: £1000 per person / £2000 with 1:1 tuition / £1250 on your own boat (upto 4 people). For the optional exam: £142 exam fee plus £200 boat hire.
Prices include VAT, accommodation onboard vessel , breakfast and lunch (except own boat courses), RYA Motor Cruising scheme syllabus and logbook, certificate (on successful completion), all fuel (except own boat courses), hire of waterproofs and lifejacket.

Dates: We train 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Courses can usually be arranged on a date of your choice.
