RYA Advanced Powerboat & Commercial Exam
at Plymouth Powerboat School, Devon & Cornwall

Coastal TripThis course covers boat handling, seamanship, day & night pilotage and coastal navigation up to the standards required to drive a powerboat safely by day and night in tidal coastal waters.

Entry requirements: Knowledge of navigation and chartwork to Dayskipper level (for an extra fee we can provide navigation tuition prior to the course) together with Intermediate powerboat course or equivalent driving experience.  A First Aid qualification and VHF radio licence are also required.

Minimum age: 17

Course duration: 2 days – 09:30 to 17:00 on day 1 and 09:30 till late on day 2

Course fee: £300 per person / £600 with 1:1 tuition / £700 for 3 students / £500 on your own boat (up to 3 people).
Prices include VAT, RYA Powerboat Logbook, Certificate (on successful completion), All Fuel (except own boat courses), Tea & Coffee, Hire of Waterproofs and Lifejacket

Dates: We train 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year. Courses can usually be arranged on a date of your choice

Commercial Endorsement Exam: Required if you wish to drive an MCA coded boat up to 24m in length to Category 3 (20 miles from a safe haven, day and night).  You will need a medical, sea survival certificate, 400 logged miles and 12 night hours (in addition to the sea time on the course).  The cost is £150 for boat hire plus £145 exam fee.
