Plymouth Powerboat School are an RYA motor boat & powerboat training centre dedicated to providing the highest possible standards of tuition, safety and equipment all at competitive prices. We offer power boat courses, shorebased courses, skippered rib charter, bareboat rib charter, motor cruiser charter, boat deliveries and own boat training anywhere in Europe. Our most popular RYA courses include Power Boat Level 2, ICC, Intermediate, Advanced, Commercial Endorsements, VHF Radio, First Aid, Helmsman, Day Skipper Power, Coastal Skipper Power & Yachtmaster Power Practical & Shorebased. We train 7 days a week, 52 weeks a year from Queen Anne’s Battery Marina in Plymouth.

Our students range from complete novices through to those who have been boating for their entire lives. While the majority of our clients are leisure users, we also specialise in providing training for people who plan to work commercially on the water skippering dive, fishing or other charter boats.

6 week Intensive Fast Track Yachtmaster Power Course

Our teaching boats include an 7.6m RIB, 6m RIB and a Jeanneau Prestige flybridge motor cruiser. All under 3 years old and maintained to the highest possible standards, these boats provide an excellent combination of comfort, safety and speed. All boats are fitted with the latest electronics including a colour GPS / chart plotter, echo sounder and DSC VHF Radio together with a comprehensive set of safety equipment. Our RIBs and motorboats are also available for charter either with or without skipper.

Before, during and after your RYA course our professional, experienced, friendly instructors are always on hand to answer any questions you might have. Being a dedicated motorboat & power boat training sea school gives us the edge over the various sailing schools in the area which only offer powerboating as a sideline. We operate a maximum ratio of 3 students per instructor on all practical courses (1:1 tuition also available) and 6 students per instructor on all shorebased courses. This enables us to offer the personal touch that other centres are unable to.

Plymouth Sound is the ideal location for powerboat training with a unique combination of safe sheltered areas for novices and challenging rough water for advanced courses and bespoke tuition. In the 7 years that our boat school been operating, we have never had to cancel a course due to the weather. We are easily reached from across Devon, Cornwall, Somerset & Dorset and are only a 3 hour drive from London.

All our instructors are experienced professionals with a passion for the water. Plymouth Power Boat School's Principal is Michael Whelan. He is a fully qualified RYA Advanced Powerboat Instructor, Motor Cruising Instructor, Senior Sailing Instructor, Day Skipper & Yachtmaster Shorebased Instructor, PWC Instructor, VHF Radio Assessor, First Aid Instructor & Commercially Endorsed Yachtmaster Power & Sail. Michael has a wealth of boating experience including running a sailing school in Ireland and over 15,000 teaching hours.
